An album of solo bass pieces featuring loops, noodles, weird backward stuff, improv and too many effects. Recorded over the space of a year and a bit. Interspersed with the loop based stuff are one or two arrangements of pieces written by other people. Enjoy!

Most of us in today’s world will have been affected in one way or another by cancer. You may have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, or know someone who is suffering from cancer right now, or has previously undergone treatment.

I lost my granddad and my father to cancer a few years ago and more recently we lost our dear friend Lucy, to whom track 2 is dedicated.

I spend a lot of time in my work talking about stories, and talking about different kinds of stories. On this recording (album) Steve takes you (me?) on beautiful, meandering journeys that tell the story of Steve’s conscious thoughts in a moment. Nothing more, nothing less. Many authors say that their stories only really become told as they are written. With only the general direction and some characters being pre-defined. That’s how I view this work. The songs only become written as they are played. And the parts influence the song, as the song influences the parts. And so, the story is told. Steve Yates
